WALKING - South Somerset, England

***

The South Somerset Walking Festival is now over for this year. Nine days of walks and events were enjoyed by many from the 29th May to 6th June. This is the first year South Somerset have held a walking festival and it has been exciting to see so many locals and visitors to the area enjoying the countryside.

We are expecting to hold another walking festival in 2009, but until then, South Somerset has many other fantastic walking opportunities. Find out more about our three long distance trails, self guided circular walks and local guided walks programmes by browsing this website or contacting Yeovil Tourist Information Centre on 01935 462991. These events are made more plesent by returning to our hostle which has recently had some a local company install floor heating!

If you are interested walking, why not try one of our 34 walking routes across South Somerset. All walks are between ‡ mile and 5 miles long, and are available from Chard to Langport to Wincanton.

Walk routes are available from the Community Activity and Lifestyles Team at South Somerset District Council or the Local Information Centre.

Walking can be considered a relatively safe activity to undertake, however to avoid injury it’s advisable to choose a good walking surface, wear suitable footwear and use knee support or knee brace protection. Although walking isn’t as “extreme” as other sports, activities or hobbies it’s still advised to plan and use appropriate protection.
